Saut d’Eau is a picturesque and culturally significant location on the north coast of Trinidad, just under 1 km from the mainland. The name “Saut d’Eau” translates from French as “waterfall,” aptly describing the cascading falls that plunge directly into the Caribbean Sea.

Saut d’Eau Island was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in 1935. It serves as the only breeding ground for the brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) in Trinidad and Tobago. The island also hosts over 27 bird species, including the chestnut-collared swift and the rufous-necked wood-rail. Its rugged cliffs and remote location help protect these species from poaching .
